Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race and Parade of Sail 2021

In October 2021, the Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race (GCBSR) and Parade of Sail will showcase a wide range of schooners and historical sailing vessels. Prior to the race, dozens of historical sailing vessels will be on display in Baltimore Harbor.

Parade of Sail
The annual boat parade is scheduled to occur in the Northwest and Inner Harbors at Baltimore, MD on October 6, 2021, between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. The parade officially begins at 5 PM; vessels are likely to cast off lines sooner to get into position.

Up to 35 schooner-rigged sailing vessels from 35 to 157 feet in length will depart the Anchorage Marina in the Northwest Harbor starting at 4 p.m., then at 5 p.m. operate along a loop-shaped parade course within Baltimore’s Inner Harbor at Baltimore, MD, then return to Anchorage Marina.

The schooners can be viewed from the Canton, Fells Point, Harbor East, & Inner Harbor shorelines. The U.S. Coast Guard reminds spectator vessels to please allow ample room for the parade vessels to maneuver safely.

2021 Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race

The 2021 Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race is scheduled to occur on the Chesapeake Bay during October 7-9.

The race begins in Baltimore, Maryland, and ends 118 nautical miles down the Chesapeake Bay in Norfolk, Virginia.

The race consists of up to 35 participating schooner rigged sailing vessels, ranging from 35 to 157 feet in length.

The 2021 race will also include an Invitational Class of non-schooners, three ketches, two skipjacks, and a three-sail bateau.

Participating vessels will depart from Anchorage Marina in the Northwest Harbor at Baltimore, MD on Thursday, October 7, 2021 starting at 7:30 a.m., then proceed to the race start in the Chesapeake Bay.

The START, located outside the federal navigation channel just south of the William. P. Lane Jr. Memorial Bridges (US-50/301) near Annapolis, MD, is scheduled at noon.

A small spectator fleet is expected at the start of the schooner race. The race participants will proceed to Norfolk, VA.

Proceeds from the Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race support non-profit organizations in the two areas; Baltimore/Annapolis and Portsmouth/Norfolk.
